Our Gutter Cleaning & Clearance Process

If you have blocked or damaged guttering our fully trained technicians will advise on everything from clearing debris, repair or replacement of sections or even the application of gutter guards. All services are undertaken with full public liability insurance and in accordance with the relevant health and safety regulations.

Inspection Survey

Inspection of the gutter can usually be done at ground level using our telescopic poles that can reach a height of 12 metre / 40 feet with an inspection camera at the top end and a video screen at technician level. The image is of excellent quality and the technician can show the customer first hand live close up video footage of what the situation is above. The technician will use a ladder for closer inspection and clearance of the downpipe joints and brackets (This can not be done using the vacuum, and many companies don’t do).

Cleaning & Blockage ClearanCE

The general cleaning and clearance of blockages of the guttering system can be undertaken at ground level using our telescopic vacuum system, with inspection camera at the top. The vacuum utilises 3 powerful 1000 watt motors removing all offending debris and can reach a height of 12 metre / 40 feet (4 stories), therefore enabling access to the most remote areas, including over large conservatories and non accessible parts of the property. The vacuum has a selection of end attachments which can remove the most stubborn of obstructions and has wet and dry capabilities. The technician will use a ladder for closer inspection and clearance of the downpipe joints and brackets (This can not be done using the vacuum, and many companies don’t do).. Once the gutter system has been internally cleaned and cleared a hose will be inserted into the gutter to ensure the water is running freely and there are no leaks.
As an additional service, the external cleaning of the gutter system and the fascia & soffits can be undertaken using our pressure washing or softwashing systems.

Our Gutter Maintenance & Repair Services

replacement joints & Parts

If you do have leaking gutter joints it’s important to get them repaired as soon as possible. Sometimes removing the section of guttering and cleaning between the joint can fix the issue as dirt can force the joints apart. If there are cracks they will need to be filled in with colour matching specialist gutter sealant or if the joints have excessive damage or weathering they may need to be replaced with new parts, which can be undertaken as an additional service and may require a revisit. Loose gutter brackets can be tightened or replaced if necessary to ensure there durability and safety of the complete guttering system during periods of heavy rain, snow or winds.

Gutter Guard Installation

Gutter guards come in the forms of a mesh that covers the gutter, or a brush which sits in the gutter and both act as a filter, catching leaves and preventing them from entering your gutters and down pipes while still catching the water. Although the guards won’t stop all debris from entering your gutters, they will keep the larger more dangerous pieces from causing blockages, flooding, leakages and sagging. However you should still consider an annual inspection and clean.

Benefits of Regular Gutter Cleaning

When was the last time you had your guttering checked? If, like most people, you can’t remember, then now might be time to get around to it.

Even though they’re "out of sight and out of mind" for the majority of the time, your gutters actually play a huge role in the structural integrity of your house, and keeping them clean is a great way to avoid the potentially costly expense of gutter repairs. Remember prevention is better than cure.

Gutters have one job: to guide rainwater off your roof and straight down the drain. Despite their importance, though, it can be all too easy to forget about them until something goes wrong. If your gutters become clogged or broken, the results can be serious: not only could you end up with structural damage, the resulting damp can cause health issues for you and your family.

Whether you have cast iron, plastic, or pressed steel gutters, they need to be cleaned annually in order to keep them performing properly, and to avoid the need for gutter repairs in the future. Read on to find out more about keeping your gutters well maintained.

What causes damaged or blocked gutters?

When thinking about how to avoid gutter repairs, it's important to remember one simple fact: clean gutters are far less susceptible to damage than blocked gutters. In fact, the two most common gutter related issues facing homeowners are blockages in the gutter itself, and blockages in the down pipes. These blockages are often caused by debris, like fallen leaves, moss, and (in some unfortunate cases) dead animals. One simple way to tell if you're in need of gutter repairs is to take a step outside while it's raining - if water is running down the side of your house, it's likely that your gutters are blocked.

Leaking gutter joints are another common problem: in fact, leaking gutters are the most common cause of isolated damp in homes across the UK. Leaks can occur when bits of debris get caught in the joints, or simply from general wear and tear. If you’re experiencing damp in your property, it’s a good idea to check your gutters before you do anything else to see if that’s what’s causing the problem.

One final sign of damage to look out for is sagging gutters. This can happen when the gutter becomes weighed down by debris and standing water, or when there are rusty screws and faulty brackets. Frequent gutter cleaning can highlight these problems: you'll easily be able to check how sturdy they are by examining the down pipe on the ground, and if anything feels a little loose you can take precautions before any real damage occurs.

Is there a long-term solution to gutter maintenance?

It's recommended that you get your gutters cleaned at least once a year. The best time to do this is at the beginning of winter, after the autumn leaves have fallen and before the really bad weather kicks in. This will reduce your chances of experiencing blocked guttering later on in the year, and gives you plenty of time to book in any vital gutter repairs before it gets too wet and windy. It’s also a good idea to do a quick check of your gutters in spring. Make sure that any large pieces of debris that have blown in over winter are removed, and check that all of the screws are tight and that no brackets are loose. Gutters can be damaged by snow-fall and high winds, so it’s also wise to ensure everything is in order after a spell of particularly bad weather.

If the property’s surrounding area has a lot of trees then debris is unavoidable. As an additional service we can install a gutter guard. These come in the forms of a mesh that covers the gutter or a brush which sits in the gutter and both act as a filter, catching leaves and preventing them from entering your gutters and down pipes while still catching the water. Although the guards won’t stop all debris from entering your gutters they will keep the larger, more dangerous pieces from causing blockages, flooding, leakages, and sagging. However you should still consider an annual inspection and clean.

If the property has a lot of moss on the roof it could be advisable to clear the moss first and treat the surface with a biocide to minimise the regrowth, therefore preventing the moss falling into the gutter system and causing further obstructions.
